Over the past few weeks i have experiences various ways heat can be used to manipulate the shape of plastics (particularly hips and acrylics)! These methods were more fitting with my original idea's of what heat treatment could be used for (exposing material to high temperatures to make them flexible) although i was inexperienced with practical work. I conducted some experimentation into how various plastics could be manipulated and was fortunate enough to be shown some 'Polymorph' ( thermoplastic material granules) which was different to all the other heat treatment methods i had used.
What i did learn was how thickness and even colour of acrylics can effect how it behaves when being heated and shaped, particularly when bending very thick acrylics to tight angles. Experimenting with heat treatment of plastics was very useful when working with acrylic in the design and make module and helped with some important decision making.
